Effective practice for planning and designing co-teaching and collaboration with peers
|
This is an example of a lesson that uses co-teaching to meet student needs and increase learning. It is designed using various strategies including accommodations based on fictional students IEPs, UDL (universal design for learning) and Common Core standards for English. It was created with Meghan Quinn as a co-treaching lesson for LAI 574.
For this assignment we took a lesson and modified it to include co-teaching and the fictional students. We then taught it to our class and reflected on the lesson. Overall the lesson went well. It was interesting to co-plan and co-teach with another person that I had never worked with before as we both had ideas to implement the needed supports for our students with disabilities. The quote above from the professor of the class is something I thought was important to remember. Having two teachers in a room can make a huge impact on learning and what strategies can be used, but it has to be done thoughtfully and with purpose. Just like all parts of a lesson it must be thought out and planned to increase learning for all students and provide the required and necessary support for students with disabilities. |
